Education Foundation of the Kennebunks

Grant Disbursement Guidelines

Grant Disbursement Mission:

The Foundation will allocate grants among those initiatives and programs that best further innovation and excellence in public education in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, including programs that are ordinarily not funded through the regular School-Board-approved operating budget.

Eligibility:

Any student, teacher, administrator or community member may submit an application.  The project must be carried out in alignment with the Kennebunks school system (Early-K – 12) and have approval of the involved school principal.

Proposal Award Process:

Grants are awarded on a competitive system wide basis tri-annually.  Each application will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Board of Directors.  Every effort will be made to distribute grants equitably to all schools in the district.  The grants are focused in two areas: enrichment programs for students and training and development programs for teachers.  Preference will be given to those projects that include many of the following:

  • Are creative, innovative and stimulate student learning
  • Utilize new technology (and has approval of IT director)
  • Involve direct, “hands on”, student participation
  • Involve a large number of students (25 or more) or impact a significant portion of the student body
  • Enhance the school objectives
  • Create or provide partial funding by the participants
  • Lead to the completion of a project which exhibits lessons learned and provide longer term value

The amount awarded for a grant will depend on the quality of the program, funds available, the funds needed for the project and the number of applications received.

Project Follow Up:

Grant recipients will provide an appraisal of the project upon completion that will include a presentation to the Foundation Board summarizing lessons learned and additional benefits gained.

Application Deadlines:

Proposals will be considered three times in a school year.  The applications must be received by October 15, January 15 or April 15 of the current school year.  The Foundation Board will respond to the proposal within 30 days of the application deadline.
